A836 Lairg to Tongue route shut after heavy snowfall

Highland Council is warning drivers that the A836 Lairg To Tongue road is closed due to a heavy snowfall combined with drifting snow at various locations.

A council spokesman said: "A decision has been taken to close this road. It will remain closed overnight, and an update will be given tomorrow morning."

Closure signs are now in place at Dalchork, Lairg, and at Braetongue, Tongue.

To avoid this closure, drivers are advised to use the A838 via Durness to Lairg or onwards via the A835 and Ullapool, or the A836 via Thurso and the A9.
