A grandfather from Nairn has gone viral online after racking up a mammoth amount of savings in a giant bottle.

David Nicoll (52), now has over 50 million views online after he posted the video of him paying in the savings of his collection at the bank.

Over three and a half years, he saved £3291 by just putting loose change into the bottle.

Speaking to the Inverness Courier, Mr Nicoll said: “It just started off with me, my wife and my son putting loose change into the bottle.

“It then turned into a bit of a challenge to get it filled.”

Speaking about his online fame, he said: “I got my daughter to film it, as me and my granddaughter Ayla (7), paid it in at the bank.

“I already had around one million views on another Tik Tok and I just wanted to see what would happen.

“Within a few hours the video of me paying in it at the bank had over four million views.

“It’s been a laugh and now there are over 50 million views as channels like Lad Bible have picked it up.”

For Mr Nicoll, it has been encouraging to see the enthusiasm that has been built for people to save.

“Everyone’s now saying they need to get a bottle,” he said.

“It felt good to encourage people to save, as people maybe wouldn’t normally do that with their loose change.”

Mr Nicoll now plans to invest his savings to gain a bit of interest on them.

He said: “I only started to encourage my grandchildren to save.

“It’s been a good laugh and it's been nice to see the reaction.”
