Charlie's Cafe in Inverness which has been run by the same family for more than 70 years is entering a new chapter in its history as it passes to a new owner.

Chris Corbett has now taken over the much-loved institution from Martin Pieraccini who has run it for the past 30 years.

1. Charlie Pieraccini opened the cafe in September 1952 at the corner of Margaret Street and named it after himself.

His grandson, Martin, was the third generation in his family to run the cafe.

The Pieraccini family were originally from Barga in Italy.

2. Charlie's Cafe quickly became a popular place to meet up and was the first cafe in Inverness to have a jukebox.

3. The customers range from regulars to tourists visiting the Highlands, some of whom make a point of calling in on return visits. Music duo Charlie and Craig Reid, of The Proclaimers, have visited the cafe.

4. Its signature dish is home-cooked macaroni which new owner Chris Corbett will be keeping on the menu.

The display of motorbikes is going but ideas are being sought for a replacement display.

5. The familiar display of motorcycles is being returned to its owner but Chris Corbett is keen to hear suggestions for the creation of a new display.
