The Helmsdale bricklayer has been called up to the Scotland squad to compete at the WDF World Cup which takes place in South Korea in September.

He is one of four men and four women who have been called up to represent Scotland in Seoul with the competition taking place over five days, starting on September 22.

Denoon, who plays darts for Portland A in the Inverness Darts League, is in the squad with Derek Maclean from Inverness. along with Aberdeen based darts players Scott Campbell and Jamie Bain.

Denoon (42) is no stranger to representing Scotland as he has represented his country at various international tournaments.

He represented Scotland at the Europe Cup, but says being selected to play at a World Cup is his biggest achievement in the sport to date.

He said: “This has to be the pinnacle of my career so far. Previously it was competing at the Europe Cup, but to go to the World Cup has to be at the top of the tree compared to all the rest.

“I found out last month that I had been called up after the last Scottish Darts Association tournament.

“It is great that I have been selected in the Scotland team with some good friends.

“But I am especially pleased for Derek as I play doubles with him in competitions in the Inverness league and also play along side him in the Highland county team.

“It will be his first time as well playing for Scotland in a World Cup so it will be a great experience for both of us especially.”

Denoon says Scotland have been performing well in international competitions in recent years. While he knows they will be taking on top players from around the world, believes Scotland are good enough to return back as world champions.

“We have been unlucky previously in recent tournaments, we came within a set of winning the British Internationals in March.

“Then we only lost 13-10 to England in the Six Nations semi final. The team has been performing well and it is only a matter of time before we win a major tournament.

“There is no reason we can’t win the World Cup.

“The likes of the Netherlands and Sweden will be among the contenders for the titles. In the singles. doubles and team events there are a lot of points to pick up and each team member is good enough to go far.”

Denoon is happy with how he has performed during 2025 but has been tackling injury, although he is now back to full fitness.

He will be competing in some competitions before targeting world championship success next month.

He said: “I have been playing steady darts in the Scottish Darts Association tour competition. I am planning to compete in the PDC Challenge Tour next year. I have had shoulder and neck problems this year but I am back to full fitness again.

“I will be competing at tournaments in Inverurie and Glasgow in the next few weeks. I will step up the practice over the next few weekends.

“There is only one spare weekend before I head off to the World Cup. If you can’t get yourself prepared for that, then there is something wrong.”
