Visitors from across the world flock to Assynt Highland Games

Visitors from all over the world descended on Lochinver on Friday, August 8, to take part in and enjoy the Assynt Highland Games.

The 2025 Games were officially launched in the traditional way with the arrival of this year’s Chieftain, Annella Bulch, and her guests by boat, courtesy of North Coast Sea Tours.

Despite the frequent heavy showers, spirits remained high, and the crowds quickly gathered as the Games got into full swing.

Competitors from far and wide attended to participate in the Highland dancing competitions, piping and heavy events, including tossing the caber, throwing the hammer, and a range of field events, such as the hotly contested annual hill race.

However, due to the inclement weather, the Highland dancing competition was relocated to the nearby Assynt Leisure Centre, with helpers and spectators happily adapting to the change of venue.

Overall, although the ground was a little soggy in places, good cheer and enthusiasm kept spirits high, and the 2025 Assynt Highland Games will be remembered as another very successful event.

A big thank you goes out to all those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes for many months in preparation for the big day.

The Assynt Highland Games could not go ahead without the help from all the volunteers, including the Highland Games Committee and the wider community. Therefore, as plans are set in motion for next year, any assistance offered will be gratefully received.
