UPDATE: A9 Cromarty Bridge reopens after motorbike crash, Police Scotland confirms
A key bridge on a busy stretch of the Highland trunk road network has reopened to traffic following an earlier crash.
The A9 was closed in both directions at the Cromarty Bridge shortly after 12.30pm on Sunday after a motorbike was involved in a one-vehicle crash.
Police, ambulance and fire service crews were called out to the scene.
Two fire appliances were sent at 12.35pm to help make the scene safe after the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service received a call from the Scottish Ambulance Service.
The road was closed in both directions for a short time, with Traffic Scotland warning motorists to expect “longer than normal journey times” and to seek alternative routes.
But the road reopened just over an hour after the initial emergency call.
Confirming the reopening of the road, a Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.35pm on Sunday, we received a report of a road crash involving a motorbike on the A9, Cromarty Bridge.
"The road was reopened around 1.40pm."
It is not known if the rider of the motorbike was injured, or if they had a sidecar or passenger.
The Scottish Ambulance Service has been approached for comment.
