Robbie to stand in East Sutherland
Robbie Rowantree, Brora, has been selected as the Liberal Democrat candidate in East Sutherland and Edderton for the council elections in May 2012.
Robbie is currently the councillor for North, West and Central Sutherland and is aiming to fill the vacancy left by the retirement of Councillor Ian Ross, who has represented the ward for 13 years.
Ian Ross says: "I have known and worked with Robbie for a number of years and he has a record of community action both at a local level, within my own ward, and within the ward he represents at the moment.”
The Liberal Democrats currently have two councillors within North, West and Central Sutherland. Says Robbie: “The arrival of Councillor Linda Munro to the party – who lives within my current ward – means that I felt it would be beneficial to continue representing Sutherland in my home area and to help carry on the excellent work of Councillor Ross.
"It has been an honour and a privilege to represent North West & Central Sutherland on the Highland Council, the area where I was brought up and went to school.
"However, we are living in straightened times and it makes financial sense for me to serve the community where I have lived and worked for the last 23 years. I have always taken a pan-Sutherland view and if I was to be elected again, would continue to take a Sutherland wide view.“
