Drag queen Miss Scarlett Ruby posed for some pictures at Wick harbour and says she is preparing to strut the stage at local venues after recently moving to Caithness.

Scarlett's day-to-day persona is Charlie Bryde who was born and raised in Inverness and has already done some performances in Thurso. Mr C's club on Traill Street recently put on a special karaoke night hosted by Scarlett in which she invited audience members to sing along to their favourite songs while enjoying cocktails.

"I'm the first drag queen in Wick and I'm the only drag queen in Caithness," said Scarlett while striking a pose beside the old fog cannon on the harbour quay.

"There was a drag queen who came up here to do a show back in 2018 but I'm the only one living locally. I've been doing it for around four years and appeared at bars in Inverness.

"Mainly I do karaoke and I do lots of different music from the likes of Alice Cooper, Pink, Elton John and Guns and Roses as well."

Scarlett performs as part of FutureStar Productions UK and was first inspired by winning acts from RuPaul's Drag Race television show.

She then started doing TikTok videos that gained in popularity and went to drag shows in Inverness to support local queens such as Scarlett Diamonte and Venus Guytrap.

Scarlett went on to host the Cashback Showcase at Eden Court and, since moving to Caithness in August last year, she has been doing gigs in Mr C's in Thurso that she says have "been a huge success". She now hopes to broaden her horizons and get bookings in Wick as well.

"If anyone out there has a passion for performing then just do it as it's a lot of fun," said Scarlett.

"There is a negative side and there are people who just don't understand it. It's for entertainment and not because that person wants to become a woman. I love entertaining people and that's why I do it."

Scarlett says that the reception she received at her Thurso gigs has been very good. "There's a woman from Orkney who travels over to see my drag show. I've had my partner on stage with me in the past but she's taking a break from it just now."
