Hugo and Rocky II take the plaudits at Sutherland riding show
THE annual Sutherland Riding Club Charity Show took place in the autumn sunshine on Saturday, September 24.
The family friendly event, which was this year hosted by Allan and Diane Mackay at the Doll Riding Centre, has raised over £3000 since its introduction to the calendar in 2014, supporting Macmillan Cancer Support and World Horse Welfare.
Commencing with the Inhand classes, judge Patricia May of Lonemore, Dornoch had a challenging time with an excellent, well supported volume of entries throughout the day.
A lunchtime break provided everyone time to visit the vintage tea stall, with heritage china cups and saucers, tasty homemade baking, cut and sliced by sisters Sandra Anthony and Shirley Moore, and the opportunity to blether with old friends and make new ones.
After the Ridden classes, trophy and sash presentations were awarded to class winners, Supreme Champion, Lucy Gray (Hugo) and Reserve Supreme Champion, Kloe Smith (Rocky II).
A spokesperson for the event said: "For many, it was their first time venturing into a showing arena. It can be a daunting experience, paying for the pleasure of having someone more knowledgeable and experienced, judge the quality of your beloved pony or horse.
"But a great time was had by all, with a really successful day raising over £600 for our charities. We look forward to next year’s event.
"Volunteers for the day, without whom this event could not have run, Fiona Sutherland and Lynn Main did a sterling job with registrations and gate stewarding."
