Danish billionaire Anders Holch Povslen to spend pennies transforming toilets at Dochgarroch near Inverness into plush reception for Aldourie Castle fishing clients
A billionaire estate owner is to turn a dilapidated Caledonian Canal-side toilet block into a plush new reception hut for wealthy fishing clients.
Aldourie Castle Ltd, owned by Danish fashion magnate Anders Holch Povslen, has won Highland Council planning approval for refurbishment of the building on land near the Lock Keeper’s Cottage at Dochgarroch, near Inverness.
The block previously contained eight toilet cubicles and sinks, but had fallen out of use.
Mr Povlsen last month gained permission to build a floating sauna and changing room on the banks of Loch Ness at the £15 million castle estate.
Since 2006, he has bought more than £100 million worth of Scottish property, including Aldourie Castle.
The latest plan involves refurbishment of the old toilet block to create a ‘meet & greet’ and rod room for fishing enthusiasts.
A major condition of approval demanded by the council’s contaminated land unit was the safe removal of asbestos materials from the fabric of the building.
The roof is to be replaced by traditional corrugated tin style roofing, while the external walls will be re-clad in timber.
Windows, where possible would be retained and repaired with those requiring to be replaced done so in matching style.
Inside, clients would be able to use a seating area with table, a kitchenette, with spaces for fishing tackle, waders and other clothing and equipment.
