Crash at Berriedale, Caithness, partially closes the A9 nine miles north of Helmsdale

A crash in Caithness has partially closed the A9 at a notorious accident blackspot.

Traffic Scotland is reporting that the accident at Berriedale, nine miles north of Helmsdale, happened at around 11.30 am today.

It is not yet known if there are any casualties or how many vehicles were involved.

A Traffic Scotland spokeswoman said: “The A9 Berriedale is currently restricted in both directions due to a road traffic incident.

“Road users are advised to use caution on approach and expect longer than normal travel times.”

However, a subsequent Traffic Scotland post on X suggested the route was now only partially closed.

Police and the Scottish Ambulance Service have been contacted for further details.
