BRORA Rangers slumped to their biggest defeat of the season against an on-form Nairn County side at Station Park last Saturday.

It was Brora’s fifth defeat in their last six outings and just as worrying for new manager Davie Kirkwood, they have failed to find the net in their last three outings.

Brora found themselves behind after just five minutes. Robbie Duncanson cut inside and his pass was swept into the net from just inside the 18-yard box by former Brora player Andrew Neill.

The visitors tried to get back on level terms and Richie Hart was not far away with a shot in the 11th minute which flashed narrowly past.

In Brora’s next attack Steven MacKay crossed for Craig Campbell, but his effort flashed wide of the upright.

But it was the home side who doubled their lead six minutes later when Gregg Main curled a free kick into the top corner of the net.

It got worse for the Sutherland side in the 21st minute when Main burst through the Brora defence and slotted the ball past Brora goalkeeper Robbie Taylor.

Brora had the chance to pull one back three minutes from the break but MacKay’s shot took a slight deflection on its way behind.

There was no let up for Brora in the second half and Nairn went further ahead in the 56th minute when Neill’s header was adjudged to have crossed the line.

At the other end, Martin MacLean forced Nairn keeper Callum Donaldson into making a full length save.

But Nairn increased their advantage in the 75th minute when he got on the end of a Duncanson cross and lobbed the keeper.

The afternoon got even worse for Brora when defender Kyle MacLean was sent off after he picked up two yellow cards in quick succession.

Nairn added a sixth goal in injury time when Mo Morrison headed home following a corner kick to complete a miserable afternoon for the visitors.

Brora will be hoping to bounce back tomorrow (Saturday) when they entertain Clachnacuddin at Dudgeon Park – kick-off 3pm.

Brora – Taylor, K MacLean, Golabek, Hind, Moir, M MacLean, Gillespie, Hart, Campbell, MacKay, MacLeod (Greig 58). Subs not used – Ross, Baxter, Lamb, Allan.
