Title hopes evaporate for Golspie Sutherland
ANY chance Golspie Sutherland had of lifting the North Caledonian League title evaporated last Saturday when they were held to a goal less draw by Muir of Ord at Pavilion Park, writes John Macleod.
Chances were few and far between in the match. The nearest Golspie came to a goal was Shane Sutherland’s shot which cleared the crossbar.
Kevin Fraser came closest for Muir-of-Ord Rovers with a rasping shot which cannoned off the underside of the bar before being cleared.
Rovers’ best chance of the second half fell to Davie Brennan in the 70th minute, but he headed just wide of the upright. Brennan’s day didn’t get any better when he was sent off for a second bookable offence shortly afterwards.
Team mate Daryl Henderson also had his marching orders after picking up two bookings in quick succession and Golspie’s Jordan Sutherland was also shown a red card before the end.
Halkirk United clinched the title with a 3-2 victory over Clachnacuddin at Recreation Park. The defending champions left it late with two injury time goals to overturn a 2-1 deficit.
In the Jock MacKay Memorial Cup, Dingwall Thistle reached the final after they came from 2-0 down to beat Thurso 3-2.
