Table toppers hold on to 100% record

AN early goal from Martin MacLean was enough to secure all three points for Brora Rangers in a tense tussle against Forres Mechanics at Mosset Park.

It was not one of Brora’s best displays of the season but they dug in when required to keep their 100 per cent record intact.

Brora opened the scoring in the fourth minute. Andrew Greig did well to get behind the Forres defence and when his cross into the danger area was spilt by Mechanics goalkeeper Stuart Knight MacLean was on hand to steer the ball into the empty net.

There was little in the way of any other clear-cut chances in the first half. The best opening fell for Mechanics player Lee Fraser who skied his shot when it looked easier to score.

There was little between the teams in the second half either as Mechanics defied their lowly league position with a battling display.

However, the Can Cans’ hopes of salvaging anything from the match were dented in the 76th minute when Ross MacPherson was sent off after he picked up a second yellow card.

Despite being down to 10 men the home side kept pushing for an equaliser and Joe Malin had to be at his best to keep out attempts from Ryan MacKintosh and Fraser.

But it was not all one-way traffic and Steven MacKay and Greig were not far away with efforts before the end.

Brora – Malin, Hind, D. MacKay, Tokely, Houston, Morrison, MacLean, R. Hart, Baxter, S. MacKay, Greig. Subs not used – J. Ross, R. Ross, B. Bruce, Campbell, Ridgers.

Tomorrow Brora host Fort William at Dudgeon Park – kick-off 3pm.
