The top two teams in the Highlands and Islands League are set to clash at Station Park, home of Nairn County as they bid to lift the first silverware of the season.

Sutherland, who made their debut in competitive football last season, won the League Cup when they defeated Clachnacuddin 3–2 in the final in October.

This weekend, they face a Buckie team who are top of the Highlands and Islands League, having won every game they have played this season.

But MacBeath believes nobody will want to win the final more than Sutherland, as they are desperate to keep the cup in their trophy cabinet.

“We are going into this game hungrier than any other game we have played this season,” says MacBeath.

“The last game we played Buckie we lost 4–3 but it was so tight and we had a weakened squad at the start of the season. But we are back to full strength so it will be interesting to see how we do against them.

“We don’t compare ourselves to other teams, we just look to be better than we did the previous week.

“Buckie are definitely strong, but we are ready and we are buzzing for the final.”

Club secretary Nadene McCulloch says memories of their cup final win last season are still fondly remembered by the club. They are determined to make more memories on Sunday.

“Last year was so special, especially with everything that happened with Covid.

“It was an amazing day, getting to the cup final was huge and we didn’t know what to expect on the day.

“But the buzz from the morning right until the end of the day was amazing.

“The whole atmosphere was electric, we came out on top and we would love to do it again."

Kick off is on Sunday at 2pm.
