Stunning Kerr hat-trick secures Golspie cup win
GOLSPIE Sutherland are on the brink of a late season cup double after a superb hat-trick from Shaun Kerr inspired them to a 3-2 victory over Orkney in the Football Times Cup Final at Sir George’s Park last Saturday.
Golspie took the lead in the 30th minute when they were awarded a penalty for hand ball and Kerr made no mistake from the spot.
The islanders rallied and they levelled just before the break when Mark Berry scored with a low drive from the edge of the 18-yard box.
Orkney edged ahead on the hour mark when the same player slotted home from 10 yards after some slack defending.
However, Golspie got their act together and Kerr tucked away an Ali MacLeod cut back in the 62nd minute to make it 2-2.
The final looked to be heading for extra-time but man-of-the-match Kerr completed his hat-trick ten minutes from the end when he got the decisive touch on a long range free kick from Aaron Christie.
Saturday - Golspie have the chance of more silverware when they take on Alness United in the Jock MacKay Memorial Final at the Recreation Grounds, Invergordon – kick-off 2pm.
