Bonar Bridge manager Bobby Breen says the signing of former Highland League stopper Steven Martin can be a “game changer”, after the club announced his signing earlier today.

The ex-Brora Rangers, Clachnacuddin and Strathspey Thistle goalkeeper joins North Caledonian League side Bonar Bridge ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, having made five appearances for neighbours Golspie Sutherland last term.

The 38-year-old had been training with the Migdale Park outfit for over a year, working alongside younger keepers in the squad.

Speaking today, Bonar boss Breen said he was “elated” to confirm Martin’s return to the club.

“We are very excited to have such a highly rated goalkeeper in our squad,” he said. “At training, Steven is like a goalkeeping coach and is amazing with the other young keepers.

“He brings unparalleled quality and experience at this level, as a leader on and off the pitch. His positivity, guidance and communication from the back will be a huge boost to our team.

“This signing will be a game changer for us.”

The move marks a return to Migdale Park for Martin, who played for Bonar Bridge between 2007 and 2009 before joining Brora Rangers.

As understudy to Joe Malin, he was part of the squad who won the Highland Football League in 2013-14 and 2014-15.

With the Cattachs, Martin also collected medals in the North of Scotland and Highland League Cups.

He later played for Alness United and Golspie Sutherland in the North Caledonian League, before spending two seasons with hometown club St Duthus between 2016 and 2018, winning the North Caledonian Cup in 2018.

After a spell with Clachnacuddin, the Tain native went on to play for both Strathspey Thistle and Invergordon.
