SUTHERLAND Women's Football Club won their first ever game in the Highlands and Islands League with a 5–1 win at Nairn St Ninian on the opening day of the season.

The Helmsdale outfit proved too good for their opponents at Nairn Showfield on Sunday afternoon.

The victory puts them in second place with them set to play their first home game against Caithness at Couper Park, Helmsdale in two weeks time.

Elsewhere, Inverness Caledonian Thistle Development showed no mercy on the opening day as they hammered Orkney 23–0 at Inverness Royal Academy.

Reigning champions Clachnacuddin had to come from behind to defeat Caithness 4-3 in Thurso.

Clach threw away a two goal lead to fall behind 3–2. But they drew level and scored a penalty five minutes from time to pick up all three points.
