North of Scotland Cup depends on how Highland League plays out

ORGANISERS of the North of Scotland Cup say whether the tournament will take place this season will depend how interrupted the Highland League becomes.
The North of Scotland Football Association have said no final decision has been taken if the tournament will take place in the 2020/21 campaign.
However, NSFA secretary Graham Wilson says it will be dependent if Highland League fixtures can be played as scheduled.
Factors such as weather conditions and covid-19 have meant some clubs have been able to play more games than others.
Brora Rangers are the holders of the trophy after they recorded a shock 3-2 victory over Caley Thistle last season at Mosset Park in Forres.
Wilson says organisers hope they can stage the tournament after the league campaign has been completed. But at present he could offer no guarantee.
“The priority at the moment is the Highland League,” said Wilson.
“The bulk of the teams that play in the North of Scotland Cup are from the Highland League so discussions are going on.
“But we need to get the Highland League as advanced as possible.
“A decision regarding the North of Scotland Cup will be taken as we see things happening.
“If it is going to happen at all, and we still intend it to happen, it will be towards the end of the season.”
The competition will involve 13 North of Scotland FA members and likely take place in April or May.
Nine Highland League clubs take part including Brora Rangers, Clachnacuddin, Forres Mechanics, Fort William, Lossiemouth, Nairn County, Rothes, Strathspey Thistle and Wick Academy.
North Caledonian League club Golspie Sutherland also take part as full SFA members along with SPFL clubs Caley Thistle, Elgin City and Ross County.
