New single figure handicap for Brora's Grant

BRORA Golf Club teenager, Grant Ross winner of the North District Handicap trophy at Strathpeffer in July has just completed a fine season by reducing his playing handicap to single figures.

Representing Golspie High School in the Highland and Moray School’s golf championship played over Aviemore’s Spey Valley golf course, Grant again topped the nett returns this time with with a gross 83, nett 73, a score which brought his handicap into single figures for the first time.

Playing off nine last Sunday in the first of the Paul Lawrie Foundation north winter tour series at Nairn, Ross found three birdies over the Walker Cup course and finished off his round with a final hole eagle three. His nett 67 won him a £60 voucher.

Golspie’s Danny Doogan was placed third handicap at Nairn with nett 71, off 10, where the leading scratch score was a 71 from local Steven Pears and his club mate, the under 15 District junior champion Calum Scott in second place with 72.

The next Paul tour competition will be held at Tain Golf Club on November 27.
