Scourie manager Tony Reynoldson praised his players for a vast improvement, despite losing 4–0 to Inverness Athletic in their first ever game at Achlochan Park.

After their opening day 11–1 hammering at Loch Ness, Scourie put in a much more competitive performance.

Athletic took the lead after 32 minutes through Luke Mackay who fired in a low strike from the edge of the box.

Athletic doubled their advantage, three minutes before half time with a stunning strike from Lewis Macleod.

Mackay got his second of the afternoon 12 minutes from time and Athletic had the chance to increase their lead from the penalty spot, but goalkeeper Alan Elder saved Matty Shewan’s shot.

Sam Ross, however, came off the bench to net a fourth for Athletic late on after turning in a Shewan cross.

Despite the defeat, Reynoldson was happy with how his team competed with Athletic.

“In the first 20 minutes we created a few chances but their goalkeeper did well,” he said.

“We could have been three goals up after 30 minutes, but due to a couple of mistakes we found ourselves down 2–0 down at half time.

“But we had a few players back for the game that were missing at Loch Ness.

“Inverness Athletic deserved to win, but it would have been a fairer reflection if they had won by one goal.”

Scourie will look to pick up their first points of the campaign when they travel to Alness United on Saturday.

The Ross-shire outfit hammered Bonar Bridge 9–0 in Dornoch last weekend and Reynoldson is expecting a tough challenge.

“We will find out this week who will be unavailable through injury or work commitments,” he said.

“Some of the lads have been in contact saying they are available to play, so we are slowly getting stronger every week.”
