The North Caledonian League’s player of the year will join the Scorries for pre-season after a campaign when he was the top scorer in the division.

The 30-year-old found the net 33 times in 21 games in league and cup competitions, despite being injured for the final five matches of the season.

The scaffolder from Staxigoe, who left the army three years ago, says he is at a stage of his career where he wants to prove himself at a higher level.

“I have been at Golspie Sutherland for the last three seasons and I have been top goalscorer at the club,” he said.

“With Wick, it is a chance to play in a higher league and I think the time is right for me to make the step up.

“I want the chance to play in the Highland League and see how good I can be there and can be a recognised starter for them.”

Wick Academy manager Gary Manson says he is keen to see what Bremner can bring to the Scorries attack during pre-season.

“Liam is going to join up with the squad for pre-season and see how things go,” said Manson.

“He’s someone we’ve been aware of for some time now and he trained with us at times throughout last season.

“He’s had three fantastic years in the North Caley so I’m delighted he is keen to test himself at the next level.”

Bremner played as a trialist for Wick Academy last season in a 2–0 win over Lossiemouth.

Bremner was named NCL player of the season last week at the end of season awards.

He felt being injured for the final five matches would rule him out of the player of the year award.

But he was delighted to receive the accolade.

“I wasn’t expecting to get so many goals, but a lot of them happened during the first half of the season.

“In the first half of the season, I scored 20 goals and I slowed down in the second half.

“But I wouldn’t have scored as many goals as I did if it wasn’t for the boys I was playing with, so a lot of credit has to go to them.

“I missed the last five games of the season, but I can’t complain with how many goals I got.

“I wasn’t expecting to be named player of the season. “I thought I might end up as top goalscorer, but being injured for the last five games, I didn’t think I would be named as player of the season.

“I wasn’t expecting it, so to receive that award was an extra bonus.”
