Golspie Sutherland confirm new management team following resignation of boss as they prepare for county derby against Bonar Bridge
GOLSPIE Sutherland have appointed a new management team after confirming Andrew Banks has stood down as boss.
The North Caledonian League club have revealed that chairman Ewen Campbell, Keegan Campbell and captain Adam Sutherland will act as co-managers at Golspie until at least the end of the season.
It comes as it has been confirmed Banks has resigned from his post for personal reasons.
The change in management comes as Golspie Sutherland are set to take on Bonar Bridge at Migdale on Saturday in a Sutherland derby in the North Caledonian League.
Chairman Campbell confirmed the change of management at the club to the Northern Times on Wednesday afternoon.
He said: “We are going to run the team ourselves among myself, Keegan and Adam.
“The three of us will take the reins, Keegan will act as head and take charge alongside myself and Adam who will help him out until the end of the season.
“We will see how things go and what happens after that.
“We are all committee members and we are going to take charge of the team ourselves.
“Andrew has stepped back from the club for personal reasons and resigned as manager. But he says that he will help out in the background when he can.
“At the moment, there is not much more we can say.”
Keegan Campbell has experienced success as a manager already as he led Golspie Stafford to the North West Sutherland League Championship this summer.
He led them to a league and cup double as Stafford also claimed the Stafford Cup following beating Helmsdale United in the final.
The trio will take charge of their first match on Saturday when they head to Bonar Bridge in a Sutherland derby with kick-off at 1pm.
They were knocked out of the Jock Mackay Cup semi final last Saturday when they suffered a 5-1 thrashing by Halkirk United at Morrison Park.
Halkirk took the lead through Cameron Montgomery before Andrew Mackay and Alan Mathieson scored twice to put the Anglers 5-0 up.
Shaun Urquhart grabbed a consolation for Golspie Sutherland in injury time.
Bonar Bridge are in fourth place in the league and missed the chance to go top last Friday night when they lost 2-1 at Clachnacuddin A.
Ally Macleod put Bonar Bridge ahead after 15 minutes, but second half goals from Scott Macarthur and Ryan Macnamara gave Clach victory.
Campbell says he has been impressed with Bonar Bridge this season and knows they face a tough test in the derby on Saturday afternoon.
He said: “We should have a decent enough squad for the county game. It will be a tough game for us as Bonar Bridge have done really well this season.”
