FINE weather and a good turnout of riders ensured a successful day of racing at Golspie’s Highland Wildcat trails, when East Sutherland Wheelers played host to a round of the Scottish Cycling North Dirt Crit series.

There was a programme of races for boys and girls aged from under six to under 18.

Younger riders tackled a short lap of grass and woodland trail, while the over-eights had a challenging course starting with a severe climb from the Rhives car park and incorporating a rocky downhill section, water crossings and paved sections.

Race organiser Anne Baddon said: “It was a really enjoyable day and the work of the volunteers who prepared the course and helped on the day was well rewarded.

“We were delighted with the number of competitors and it was fantastic to see so many smiling as they crossed the finish line, regardless of whether they had won a medal.”

The next round of the series is at Learnie on the Black Isle this weekend.
