Bonar Bridge, Golspie Sutherland and Scourie along with nine other North Caledonian League clubs to vote on suspending season

FOOTBALL clubs in the North Caledonian League will vote tomorrow night whether to suspend the 2020/21 campaign due to Scotland being placed in lockdown.

Twelve North Caledonian Football Association clubs are set to discuss whether to pause the season due to the rising number of cases in the region.

North Caledonian League Division One and Two are set to resume this weekend after the festive break.

However, some clubs have indicated they are in favour of freezing the season with the hope of resuming in February.

The North Caledonian League, along with the Scottish Professional Football League, Highland League and Lowland League, along with other divisions at tier six and tier seven levels have been given exemptions to continue playing football.

But NCFA president Iain Whitehead says the clubs will come to an official decision on Wednesday if they think it is appropriate to do so.

"Clubs will decide whether to pause the season when we hold a virtual conference tomorrow night," he said.

"We can continue if we want to, but we have to discuss whether we think it is right to keep playing at our level.

"With virus numbers increasing in the Highlands it might be decided for us.

"But at the moment, we are in control whether when we can start and stop the season."

Last season, clubs voted to null and void the 2019/20 North Caledonian League campaign due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile the Highland League have confirmed their season will continue as normal with no clubs raising objections to the SHFL committee.
