The Orkney outfit have released a statement on social media that they will not be returning to the competition after the summer break as the season resumes this month.

All the results involving Kirkwall City, who were in eighth place in the nine team league, have been ruled void.

As a result the Highland and Islands League has been reduced to eight teams for the remainder of the season.

A statement from Kirkwall City on their social media account said: "It's with sadness we need to announce that we've withdrawn from the remainder of this season's Highland and Islands League.

"Our senior sessions are cancelled until we decide what we want to do going forward but our youth sessions are unaffected by this, they will continue as normal."

"It was great being part of the league for a third season, and we're disappointed at having to withdraw from the second half of games, but we'll hopefully sort something for some more games in future."

Two games are scheduled to take place this weekend as Clachnacuddin travel to face Sutherland with Caithness taking on Brora Rangers in Thurso.
