The Cattachs are now one point clear at the top of the table as they took advantage of Brechin City playing in the Scottish Cup fourth round against Hearts last week.

They fell behind eight minutes before half time when Michael Finnis deflected a Milosz Ochmanski cross into his own net. But Brora equalised when Connor Bunce, who joined from Clachnacuddin in November, nodded home a header from a Tony Dingwall free-kick.

Finnis then put Brora Rangers ahead in the 57th minute when got on the end of a Craig Mackenzie free-kick in the box and fired home.

Inverurie Locos looked like they salvaged a point when they were awarded a penalty four minutes from time which Paul Coutts converted.

But former Inverness Caledonian Thistle defender Duffy, who arrived at the club last month after leaving Strathspey Thistle, scored the winner in the 92nd minute to send Brora Rangers top of the table. Speaking afterwards on Brora Rangers social media, Duffy was delighted to get the goal which sent them top of the table.

“It was a bit scrappy at times and I don’t know if the pitch is helping that.

“It was more of a dogfight than our usual sort of passing and we couldn’t really get it on the floor.

So we went more direct which we were getting a bit of joy from. I missed a chance in the first half which made it a bit frantic at times.

“It was a bit scrappy, but it was about getting a win.

“It was tough and we haven’t trained much over the winter period. We have not had a chance to get on the grass. But the boys dug in and we had a few boys that have left and had a few injuries. The boys did brilliant to get through the 90 minutes.”
