Roddie Cameron, winner of the Clynelish salver at the beginning of August, helped inspire his team to the decisive score of gross 60 and nett 54.1 in the Texas Scramble competition at Brora last Sunday.

Cameron’s unfancied quartet of Andy Stewart, Gary Smith and Anne Clarke started slowly with only two birdies over the first six holes, but Clarke’s off-the-green birdie putt on the seventh ignited an unbroken run of eight successive sub-par figures to the 14th hole for their winning card.

Another gross 60 card was returned by the Golspie team of Michael Bonner, Larry Stewart, Sam Sommerville and Chris Sommerville but their lower handicap allowance of 4.1 on a day of exceptional scoring left them in sixth place.

Leading nett scores: R. S. Cameron, A. Stewart, G. Smith A. Clarke (5.9) 54.1. D. Mackay, M. Keay, J. Beard, D. Wood (Tarbat) (5.4) 54.6. J. Johnstone R. Matheson, J. Meiklejohn, A. Williamson (Thurso) (5.9) 55.1.
