Brora’s baptism of fire

BRORA Rangers experienced a baptism of fire in their opening league mach of the season against pre-season title favourites Formartine United at Dudgeon Park last Saturday.

The visitors got off to a flyer when Stuart McKay burst through the Brora defence and sent an angled drive past Brora goalkeeper Shaun McCarthy.

Formartine were dealt a blow in the 20th minute when they lost the services of new signing Michael McGinlay with a hamstring injury.

However, McGinlay’s replacement Andrew Bagshaw doubled the lead in the 43rd minute when the ball fell kindly for him 10 yards out.

Brora tried hard to get back into the match after the break but they found United’s experienced goalkeeper Ross Bremner in top form.

It was United who increased their lead when another substitute, Barrie Stephen, knocked in a McKay cross in the final minute.

Brora Rangers – McCarthy, Moir, Golabek, MacLeod, E Murray, Smith, Baxter, Sutter, J Murray (Ross 77), Grant (Nichol 34), Kerr.

Unused subs – Munro, MacKintosh, Martin.

Brora face another difficult match tomorrow when they travel to play Cove Rangers at Allan Park – kick-off 3pm.
