The Cattachs missed a major opportunity to extend their lead at the top of the Highland League last weekend when they went down to a 3-2 defeat against Fraserburgh at Dudgeon Park.

Broch edged in front through Fraser Mackie but Mark Nicolson quickly levelled for the leaders.

The same pattern developed in the second half, Aidan Sopel putting the visitors back in front with Michael Finnis replying for Brora within five minutes.

In the push for a winning goal, Bryan Hay put Fraserburgh ahead for a third time and this time the hosts couldn’t hit back, and finished with 10 men following Ali Sutherland’s red card.

Brora remain one point ahead of Brechin but have played two games more.

Speaking after the game on Brora Rangers social media.

“I don’t think we were at it and looked a bit lethargic. We still created a lot of chances, but defensively we didn’t do enough as a group.

“It was a bizarre game where it could have been 5-5.

“We created enough chances to win the game, but we didn’t take them and we were punished.

“Huntly will be a tough game, we knew that it would be hard month for us away to Inverurie and having Fraserburgh here.

“We need to stand up and do the business and be disappointed with the result which the dressing room is.

“We need to be together to feel the frustration and letting that disappear over the weekend and go again. We have passed up a huge opportunity but there is a lot of football to be played and it is important to believe we can still win games and that will be our intention on Saturday.”

Brora Rangers have boosted their squad as they have signed Matthew Wright from Highland League rivals Nairn County.

It has been confirmed on Friday night the 22-year-old has left Station Park to sign for the Sutherland outfit.

Wright signed for Nairn County last Summer after joining the club after being released from Ross County.

During his time at Nairn he made 21 appearances and scored nine goals.

Wright, who is from Stornoway, has previously played for Brora Rangers between August 2021 and January 2022, while on loan from Ross County.

He has also been on loan at Montrose, Falkirk, Elgin City and Brechin City while with the Staggies.

He expected to be in the squad for tomorrow’s game against Fraserburgh at Dudgeon Park.

Wright will boost manager’s Steven Mackay’s options up front following losing the services of Andrew Macleod and George Robesten who were recalled by Ross County.
