Brora Rangers move two points clear at the top of Highland League with win over Turriff United - Brechin City are held to a draw by Buckie Thistle
Brora Rangers have moved two points clear at the top of the Highland League following their 2-0 win at Turriff United.
Going into today’s matches, Brora were level on points with Brechin City on 52 points but were top on goal difference.
But Brechin City were only able to draw 2-2 with Buckie Thistle at Glebe Park.
Brora’s victory in Aberdeenshire saw them move on to 55 points with Brechin City on 53 points.
Connor Bunce, who signed for Brora Rangers from Clachnacuddin in November, opened the scoring in the 35th minute.
Gary Pullen saw his initial shot blocked. But Max Ewan’s cutback found Matty Wright and his effort was palmed to the feet of Bunce who fired home from a tight angle.
Brora Rangers doubled their advantage eight minutes into the second half when Shane Sutherland got a header onto a Ali Sutherland cross and nodded it into the net.
Elsewhere in the Highland League, Forres Mechanics stunned Banks O’Dee 3-2 in Aberdeen. Formartine United needed an injury time winner to beat Strathspey Thistle 3-2 and Wick Academy got an impressive 1-1 draw at Fraserburgh.
Brora Rangers will look to stay top of the Highland League on Wednesday night when they face Strathspey Thistle at Dudgeon Park.
