HIGHLAND League champions Brora Rangers were made to pay the penalty after they were left stunned in a Highland League Cup semi final defeat to Buckie Thistle at Dudgeon Park.

The Cattachs, who were looking to add the trophy to their league and North of Scotland Cup title, saw Gregor MacDonald force the game to a penalty shoot-out after he levelled the score in the final seconds of extra time.

But the Moray coast outfit managed to keep their composure in the shootout to face Rothes in next Saturday's final.

Buckie broke the deadlock after three minutes when Steven Ross fired a low drive past Joe Malin.

But Bjorn Wagenaar levelled for the hosts with a close range effort before the hour mark.

Buckie Thistle were reduced to 10 men when Hamish Munro was sent off for a foul on Paul Brindle.

But they took the lead with three minutes of extra time remaining when Jack Murray scored.

Brora forced the game to penalties when MacDonald scored and in the shoot-out took a 2-0 lead through Martin Maclean and Paul Brindle with Joe Malin saving Buckie's first penalty by Kyle Macleod.

But Daniel Bell saved MacDonald's penalty with Mark Nicolson hitting the crossbar as Andy MacAskill scored the winning the penalty to send Buckie into the final.
