Brora Rangers 2, Huntly 1

BRORA Rangers secured a welcome win against Huntly at Dudgeon Park to take their points-tally for the season to 20, writes John Macleod.

First half goals from Chris Moir and Gary Kerr gave Brora the edge before a late counter from Barry Somers made for a nervy last few minutes for the home side.

Brora took the lead after just four minutes when Moir scored with a powerful header after the visitors lost possession in the middle of the park.

The Strathbogie side responded and David Booth, Russell Guild and Neale Davidson all had shots blocked in front of goal.

However, it was Brora who doubled their lead in the 33rd minute when a Stuart Golabek shot was parried by Huntly goalkeeper Neil Hastie and Kerr was first to react to steer the rebound into the net.

A change of system produced more pressure from Huntly at the start of the second half. But they had to wait until the 84th minute to make the breakthrough when Somers headed home a Booth corner kick.

The visitors went all out for an equaliser but Brora held on for a well-earned three points and Huntly slumped to their fifth straight defeat.

Brora Rangers – Martin, MacKintosh, Finlayson, Moir (D MacKay 53), J MacKay, Golabek, Lawrie, Ross, Kerr, MacLeod, Baxter (Rutherford 86). Unused sub – Lamont, Munro, McCarthy.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Brora travel to Mosset Park to play league leaders Forres Mechanics – kick-off 3pm.
