Brora Rangers will remain in Highland League next season despite brave comeback against East Kilbride in League Two Semi Final play-off
League Two Play-Off Second Leg
Brora Rangers 3
East Kilbride 3
(East Kilbride win 7-4 on aggregate)
BRORA Rangers will remain in the Highland League next season as Lowland League champions East Kilbride held off the Cattachs to progress to the final of the League Two play-off.
After losing the first leg 4-1 at East Kilbride last week, Brora Rangers were 3-1 up in the second leg to move themselves within one goal of forcing the semi final into extra time.
But two second half goals from East Kilbride killed off the tie and they will now progress to the final to face Bonnyrigg Rose for a place in League Two next season.
Brora Rangers took the lead in the second leg clash in the 13th minute when Tony Dingwall scored after he connected with a Max Ewan cross and fired a low drive past the goalkeeper.
But East Kilbride restored their three-goal aggregate advantage in the tie when John Robertson scored to make it 1-1 and 4-2 overall on aggregate.
But Brora pulled themselves back to within two goals almost immediately when Alex Cooper’s corner kick went directly into the net to put Brora 2-1 up and only 5-3 behind on aggregate.
The comeback looked on when Shane Sutherland scored in the 57th minute to put them 3-1 up in the match and only 5-4 behind on aggregate.
But two minutes later, Joao Balde scored before a Scott Ferguson penalty killed off the tie 10 minutes before the end to give East Kilbride a 7-4 win on aggregate.
Despite the defeat, it has still been Brora Rangers’ most successful season in their history.
For the first time, they claimed a clean sweep of trophies in a single season, winning the Highland League, Highland League Cup and North of Scotland Cup.
