Local charities, organisations and individuals can tee-up grants of up to £500.

Last year more than 40 applications were received by the Highland club, which is regarded as one of the best in world golf.

General manager Neil Hampton said: “For whatever reason, we received a record number of applications last year and we are anticipating much the same this time round.

“Each application is assessed on its merits, and I’m delighted that we were able to support over 50% of them 12 months ago.”

Groups and individuals within the IV25 postcode area can take advantage of a £10,000 pot earmarked for community use from the club’s visitor income.

“This is an internationally renowned golf club with our Championship Course ranked among the finest in world golf and an exciting new clubhouse project set to be completed later in the year,” noted Neil.

“But this is also a golf club which has always been an integral part of the local community during its near 150-year history.

“Over the last decade the Council of Management has dispersed more than £70,000 to support a wide range of good causes – and to enhance the quality-of-life people enjoy in the Dornoch and Embo area.”

The Community Fund pay-outs are additional to £50,000 from visitor income given annually to the town’s Common Good Fund.

That contribution to the welfare of the town was agreed in the long-term lease for links land which paved the way to construction of the new £13.9 million clubhouse.

“We make sure the process for applying for grants is straightforward and the forms are available now from the golf club office.

“We ask for some basic information and for applicants to tell us what the grant would be used for,” explained Neil.

Completed application forms should be returned to the Community Fund, Royal Dornoch Golf Club, Golf Road, Dornoch IV25 3LW or by emailing rdgc@royaldornoch.com by Friday, March 14.
