Cliff Martin from Scottsdale, Arizona edged Dornoch golfer Gary Bethune by virtue of the better last round to take the trophy back across the Atlantic after both players were tied.

But it wasn’t all doom and gloom for Bethune as he picked up the seniors title, contested over the first two rounds.

The Seniors handicap was also won by an American golfer as Billy Mitchell from Nashville, Tennessee took top spot in the competition.

In the women’s handicap competition, new Royal Dornoch member Fran Robertson beat Fiona MacDonald by 4&2 to claim her first title.

Alexander MacDonald claimed his second Royal Dornoch Golf Club championship by three shots from Allan Cameron.

Caitlin Boa won her third straight Ladies club championship, beating long-term US member Sandy Jackson, from New York, by 5&3 in the final.
