World’s strongest man and brother to appear at Keith Show 150th anniversary
An eagerly anticipated agricultural show is gearing up for its historic 150th anniversary this coming weekend.
Among the many attractions at Keith Show will be Luke and Tom Stoltman, the world’s strongest brothers, who are promising to demonstrate some “crazy” feats of muscularity.
Added to that there’s going to be racing pigs, pygmy goats, plus a bumper number of show cattle, sheep and horses, in addition to a full set of stalls selling craft, food and lifestyle products.
What’s more, a personal message from King Charles III congratulating the town will be read out by Andy Simpson, the Lord Lieutenant of Banffshire.
Carlay Mackay, the show’s secretary, said: “There’s definitely a buzz about the event nowadays. Our preparations to make the 150th anniversary show extra special have been going on for over a year now. It’s going to be great and we’re really looking forward to it now.
“The show means so much to Keith and we want as many local people to come along as possible on both Saturday and Sunday to help make some memories that will last for another 150 years.
“We have an amazing team of volunteers and committee members who have all worked really hard to put this on.”
Founded all the way back in 1874, the Keith Show has long been one of the North-East's most popular events.
Traditionally the two-day event ran on Sunday and Monday. However the decision taken after the pandemic to change it to a weekend affair has boosted attendance, with far more families now able to come along.
Saturday will be livestock day, with 540 sheep and 130 cattle on show, plus Clydesdale horses and the ‘fur’ section which includes rabbits and guinea pigs.
Sunday will see Highland Dancing, eight pipe bands, the Stoltman brothers, speed sheep shearing, a dog show plus further horses on display.
Luke Stoltman was crowned the world’s strongest man in May at Myrtle Beach in South Carolina.
Tom, who’s his elder brother by nine years and a fellow Invergordon resident, was also amongst the 30 international finalists.
Both days of the Keith Show will start at 9am. A full list of attractions and timings is available at its Facebook site.
