FIREFIGHTERS have been scrambled from across the Highlands to help tackle a wildfire which has broken out on the hills immediately outside Ullapool.

The alarm was raised at 2.24pm. Video footage from the scene shows a long line of flames and smoke rising from the slopes immediately to the east of the Ross-shire village.

At the time of writing (3.40pm), the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said two appliances from Ullapool were already on the scene with an additional two en route – as well as two further community response units and a water carrier.

Units from Dingwall, Aultbea, Cromarty, Lybster and Inverness were among those vehicles en route.
