The primary six class at Dornoch Primary School have finished the academic year on a high note after achieving all three awards - bronze, silver and gold - in the RSPB Wild Challenge.

The challenge is aimed at encouraging children to connect with and learn about nature through various activities.

Encouraged by class teacher Shira Drain, P6 pupils planted plants that attract pollinators, made homes for hedgehogs and developed a school biodiversity plan.

They also wrote to constituency MP Jamie Stone and MSP Maree Todd about their plan and achievements. The youngsters now hope to raise awareness of local actions which can help to combat climate change.

Meanwhile primary three pupils have been kept busy on a project to help the homeless. They collected hundreds of empty crisp packets which they turned into a waterproof sleeping sack. These large sleeping sacks help keep homeless sleepers dry on the streets.

The entire school, including the nursery class, enjoyed a visit from Highland Hospice’s Bobby the Bee who thanked them for the £727 raised by pupils through a craft sale and tombola on the hospice’s fundraising Wear Yellow Day.
