Buyers from across UK flock to ‘phenomenal’ Dingwall sheep sale
DINGWALL and Highlands Marts Ltd sold 13,357 store lambs at their annual district sale with an overall average of £87.37.
Cheviot Wedder lambs (6,707) averaged £79.77 (up £8.63 on the year) and sold to £124 from Bogburn Farm, Duncanston.
Cheviot ewe lambs (1,501) averaged £81.31 ( up £12.13 on the year) and sold to £135 from 165 East Clyne, Brora.
Other breeds (5,148) averaged £96.99 (up £23.37 on the year), and sold to £157 for a Texel cross from Ha, Bower.
The verdict: “Dingwall & Highland Marts Limited held their annual district sale of store lambs which was well attended by purchasers old and new from all over the UK.
“This ensured another whirlwind of a trade for the North’s farming and crofting community who descended on the Castle.
“Cheviot wedder lambs, despite being a lot smaller than last year due to the adverse weather conditions which wrought havoc this summer, showed a phenomenal trade.
“Suffolk and Continental lambs also met a firm enquiry albeit not as dear as our first sale with many pens smashing the £100 barrier and beyond. Quality Cheviot ewe lambs were in short supply and the top end obtained premium prices.”
