FRIDAY, MAY 9

Exhibition

The Where We Stand exhibition, celebrating 100 years of community land ownership, opens in Strathnaver Museum on Friday 10am to 5pm until May 23. Created by Community Land Scotland, the exhibition features work by contemporary artists telling the stories and achievements of the pioneers of community ownership.

Walk

Join the Far North Naturalist on a guided walk in search of Emperor moths on the edge of two Sites of Special Scientific Interest (Ben Griams and Badenloch Bogs) on Friday 11am-1.20pm. Bingo at Strathy Hall on Friday evening. Eyes down 7pm. Tea, coffee and raffle. A fundraiser for Farr High School Parent Council. All welcome.

North Coast Market at Bettyhill Hall onSaturday 11am-3pm. Crafts and food stalls, homemade soup, teas, coffees and cake.

VE Day 80

Melvich and Portskerra Village Hall Committee is holding a VE Day 80 event at the Community Gardens, Melvich, on Saturday 2pm-4pm. Refreshments, kids’ tombola, music from the 40s. All welcome.

Quiz

VE DAY PARTY

VE Day 80 celebration at Fountain Road Hall, Golspie, on Saturday 6.30pm for 7pm. Open mic, mini bingo, mini quiz, sing-a-long. Refreshments; BYOB. 1940s dress optional.

Traditional music session at Bettyhill Library on Saturday 7.30pm. All are welcome to play, sing or listen.

Cathedral Concert

Dornoch Cathedral hosts a “Classics for Strings” concert on Saturday. Doors open 7.30pm for an 8pm start. The concert will feature 25 string players from the North Highlands and soprano Hasmik Harutyunyan. Entry £10/£7.50.

Live Music

Fiddle trio The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc perform at Lairg Community Centre on Saturday 7.30pm. Bring your own refreshments and enjoy an evening of top class musicianship. Book on Eventbrite.

SUNDAY, MAY 11

Race to the Base

Race to the Base at Lochinver on Sunday, starting at Culag Park at 11am and finishing at Lochinver Breakwater from 12.15pm. An inaugural half-marathon to Suilven and back. Spectators welcome.

Spring Sing

Musical fellowship followed by tea and cakes at Kincardine Church Hall, Ardgay, on Sunday 3pm-4pm.

TUESDAY, MAY 13

WALK

Join the countryside ranger for a three-hour guided walk at the Bone Caves, Inchnadamph, on Tuesday 11am-2pm. Meet at the Bone Caves car park 4km south of Inchnadamph. Book on Eventbrite. For more information, email: Donald.mitchell@highlifehighland.com.

Beach Clean

Join the Marine Conservation Society’s beach clean and marine litter survey at Brora on Tuesday

5.30pm-6.30pm. All equipment will be provided. Meet at the beach car park at the south side of the river.

East Sutherland Live Arts and Entertainment will screen Die Walküre (The second opera in the famous Ring Cycle) at Brora Community Centre on Wednesday 5.15pm.
