WATCH: TikTok sensation Calum Bowie is ‘excited’ to be playing on Belladrum’s main stage
Calum Bowie (23), from Banchory in Aberdeenshire, is an Edinburgh based singer-songwriter who rose to fame after showcasing his talent on social media. The young Scottish artist now has an ever-growing fan base of over 400,000 followers on TikTok.
Since his debut release in 2018, Calum’s presence in the Scottish music scene has grown exponentially, with his hypnotic melodies and authentic lyrics fuelling his moving music.
Taking influence from the likes of Sam Fender, Alfie Templeman, and Maisie Peters, Calum has ‘redefined the Scottish music scene for some time now’ as complimented by Spotlight UK on their review of his latest release.
When talking about his rise to fame, Calum said: “I started off doing a lot of covers on TikTok and Instagram.
“TikTok has helped me so much in my musical career. I see it as a funnel because there’s so many untapped audiences that artists can get involved with and it’s always stuff that you wouldn’t think they would like.”
While Calum has a major presence online, he has continued to remain humble about his success as he said: “It’s lovely and just really nice to have such a supportive audience.”
Calum will be the second act to take to the main stage this evening (Thursday, July 25), with numbers of up to 20,000 people at the festival watching.
The star is ‘excited’ to be given the opportunity to bring his music to the Highlands as he said: “I love coming to the Highlands and just being away from everything. It’s my second time at Belladrum, but my first time on the main stage which I am excited for.
“I also love how family friendly Belladrum is and everyone is just into the music which is nice.”
Calum is building a consistent and loyal fan base, with over 200,000 streams each month on Spotify alone, and almost 100,000 monthly listeners.
It is fair to say that Calum is on his way to becoming a household name and is certainly not one to miss in 2024.
