William Powrie, from Dingwall, worked in banking for 38 years prior to taking a leap of faith and entering the world of antiques.

He said: “I retired at 53 and after a year of cutting the grass I needed something to do, and you can’t open your own bank, so I needed something I could at least have a degree of knowledge about, and having always had an interest in antiques, it seemed the less risky of all the scenarios.”

It was at that moment William’s antique shop in Dingwall, known as Objet d’Art was born.

Objet d’Art is now into its 13th year of trading, which includes several visits from the crew of BBC’s Antiques Road Trip.

William said: “There’s not hundreds of antique shops in the north of Scotland, so I guess having them here meant we had secured a place on their map and I think we treat them pretty well.”

However, this year William had a special visit from Harry Clark and Paul Gorton, who both featured in the most recent series of The Traitors - which was filmed in the Highlands - and have gone on to be well-known faces within the media industry.

Harry won the show with his skilful deceit and his partner in crime throughout the show was Paul. The pair had viewers at the edge of their seat as they tricked their peers into believing they were ‘faithful’ in the popular murder mystery reality show.

William described the duo as the ‘future Ant and Dec’ with their charm and charisma.

“I was really pleased to see them as I knew it would be good fun, and it was good fun,” William added.

While Paul and Harry passed as successful ‘traitors’, they ‘knew nothing about antiques’.

William said: “They knew absolutely nothing about antiques or what they wanted to buy, but I think their naivety was so refreshing and I think we turned it into a little bit of an adventure for them.”

William also revealed that in the show Harry leaned more towards the antique jewellery, while Paul took an interest in the pictures and furniture.

The show will be available to watch on November 13 on BBC iplayer.
