Volunteers brave the drizzle to keep Carbisdale Forest paths clear
Despite the intermittent showers, 20 volunteers turned out on Saturday, October 25, to help the Culrain and District Hall Committee clear the paths in Carbisdale Forest.
People travelled from across the area to lend a hand, with Tain artist Ingebjorg Smith leading the way with saw and loppers.
Young Culrain resident Sonny Newman worked enthusiastically with others to clear the main path from Culrain village to the forest logging extraction track.
After four hours on the ground, the volunteers had made good progress, ensuring some of the key paths remain accessible to the public.
This was the first time that brushcutters had been used for a Culrain Hall trail-clearing event, and the amount of ground cleared far exceeded previous trail-clearing sessions.
This was only possible due to the funding of training by Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) and the support of FLS personnel Paul Hibberd and Rhys Llewellyn.
At the close of the event, the volunteers retired to Culrain Hall for a warming bowl of soup and crusty bread kindly provided by committee members.
Hall committee chairman Graham Charge said: “We appreciate the support of the many volunteers who gave up their time to help the hall committee maintain the forest trails. I would also like to thank FLS, who have provided the training that allowed us to use brushcutters to keep the paths clear.”
