HUNDREDS of spectators flocked to Balblair Farm, Bonar Bridge, at the weekend for the annual Invercharron Highland Games.

Holiday-makers from as far away as Australia and Israel joined locals for the popular event which returned to the county’s summer calendar following its last-minute cancellation last year.

Games chieftain Dr Mary Fortune oversaw Saturday’s games which featured a busy programme of heavy events, cycling, Highland dancing and piping competitions along with music from the Royal Burgh of Tain Pipe Band.

The weather stayed mostly dry for the duration of the event which attracted a healthy crowd and turnout of competitors.

Last year organisers had to pull the plug on the games after fierce late summer winds ripped through three large marquees put up for the event.

See this week’s Northern Times for a full report and photos from the games.
