‘Very best’ of livestock set to be on show in Dornoch at this weekend’s Sutherland Agricultural Show
Excitement is mounting as one of Sutherland’s most anticipated days out returns this Saturday, with thousands expected to flock to Dornoch show grounds for the 2025 Sutherland Agricultural Show.
With livestock entries up and trade stand numbers booming, show president Ewan Cameron reflects on the continued growth of the show.

“It is great to see how the show has grown year on year with an ever-increasing number of trade stands, exhibitors and visitors,” he said. “Much has changed, but what hasn’t changed is that the show is a great day out for everyone.
“The heart of the show remains our livestock section, with competitors from across Scotland showing the very best of sheep, cattle, goats, and horse and pony breeds.
“We are delighted to welcome the Shetland Sheep Society who are celebrating their Ruby anniversary with us.
“This is a key date on their calendar, with 100 competitors coming from all over Scotland to compete for the champion Shetland title.”
A total of 450 sheep, 90 cattle, and 130 horses and ponies will be shown across a full card of classes, judged by a distinguished panel from across Scotland.
Local interest centres on Golspie’s Ewan McColl, who takes charge of the overall cattle section, while Ellis Mutch of Forglen, Banff will oversee the sheep championship.
Horse classes will be judged across Shetland, Light, Highland and Clydesdale breeds by a knowledgeable team including Ken Adams, Marjory Grant and Jim Ingram.
This year’s Shetland Sheep Show is expected to be a particular highlight, with the North of Scotland 40th anniversary show attracting more than 100 entries, making it one of the largest gatherings of its kind in the UK this year.
But it’s not all about livestock.
Mr Cameron added: “Around the showground, the countryside education area, dog show, handicrafts, industrial sections and ‘Flavour of the Wilderness’ all showcase excellence in their own fields, and the trade stands, food stalls and funfair guarantee a full day’s entertainment.”
Over 80 stands will fill the showfield with a vibrant mix of crafts, food, farming supplies, homewares and more.
A free show catalogue is included with admission (while stocks last), and card payments are accepted throughout the site.
The main ring will once again provide the backdrop for a packed afternoon of entertainment.

“It will be all too easy to remain glued to the enthralling main ring, so please be sure to explore the whole showfield and experience the wide variety of excellence on offer from the local area.”
