An unsafe item of play equipment at a Golspie park will hopefully be replaced by next summer, according to a local councillor.

The popular climbing frame at the King George V playpark is currently fenced off after being deemed in too poor a condition to be used.

Golspie Community Council members said at a Zoom meeting on Monday evening, that the cordoned off equipment was one of the first sights visitors saw as they entered the village and it was creating a bad impression.

East Sutherland and Edderton councillor Richard Gale said he had met with Evan Sinclair of Highland Council’s amenity services, who had the issue in hand.

“We are not going to get like for like – a similar climbing frame would cost around £60,000,” said Cllr Gale.

“But it does not have to be a big structure - it could be a number of smaller items of play equipment and I have had some wonderful designs put in front of me. There are no great wads of money for it, but there are little pockets of funds we can tap into.”

He hoped the new item could be in situ by summer.
