The distressed partner of a Dornoch man ran half-a-mile to a public phone box at night to call police after he acted aggressively towards her.

Jamie Hook (21), Stafford Road, and the woman got into a dispute over what music to play while drinking on the evening of July 23.

The case involving Jamie Hook called at Tain Sheriff Court today.
The case involving Jamie Hook called at Tain Sheriff Court today.

The argument became heated and he shouted and swore at her before seizing hold of her laptop and throwing it, Tain Sheriff Court was told on Monday.

Procurator fiscal Roderick Urquhart said: “This seems to have occurred about 1am, and the woman’s daughter was in touch with her by video call.

“It seems that the accused did not like that, but it meant that the daughter effectively witnessed the incident through the video and heard him shouting and swearing and the laptop being thrown.

The fiscal added: “The woman ran about half-a-mile to a public phone box to phone police and then flagged down the police car as it arrived about 3.20am.

“She was obviously in a state of some distress.”

Hook admitted behaving in a threatening or aggressive manner at an address in the town’s Morrison Court.

Defence agent Rory Gowans said: “During the course of the evening quite a significant quantity of alcohol was consumed by both parties.

“An argument developed over the choice of music and an Alexa speaker was thrown at Mr Hook which struck him on the had and that was what made him seize the laptop and throw it.”

Sheriff Robert Fraser ordered that as part of the community payback order, Hook, who has previous convictions, be under supervision for a year and complete 100 hours of unpaid work during that period.
