A new pay deal worth up to 7.75 per cent has been secured for workers at Inverness Airport, Unite has confirmed.

The trade union says the deal also includes an increase in the shift allowance rate, extra days holiday and extra pay for festive holidays.

Under the deal, more than 20 front-of-house customer service agents with the aviation company, Skytanking, are set to receive a significant boost to their take-home pay including an increase in the hourly rate of £1 per hour. This represents an average increase of 7.75 per cent.

The deal also includes an increase in the shift allowance rate by £1 per hour which amounts to an increase of 29.6 per cent, an extra days holiday and double time at Christmas and New Year.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said Unite had set itself a target of securing better jobs, pay and conditions at airports across Scotland.

“This excellent new deal for Skytanking workers at Inverness airport is another step forward in delivering our Runway to Success campaign,” she said.

“The message to all airport workers is clear - join Unite.

”Unite has clocked up a string of recent successes as part of its ‘Runway To Success’ campaign which is designed to establish standards above the legal minimums across Scottish airports.”

They include:

* 12 per cent basic increase in pay for Edinburgh Airport Services workers

* 11.9 per cent basic increase for over 100 OCS workers based at Edinburgh airport

* 10.9 per cent for OCS workers based at Glasgow airport

* 10 per cent pay rise for ABM workers at Glasgow airport

Marc Jackson, Unite industrial officer, said: “Unite held successful negotiations with Skytanking at Inverness airport to ensure our members got a significant boost to their take-home pay.

“The new agreement will enhance basic hourly pay by 7.75 per cent along with major increases in shift pay and extra pay on festive holidays.

“It’s a deal we are pleased to have got over the line on behalf of our members.”
