A YOUNG Ullapool artist has been named as a finalist for a prestigious art award.

Rising star hailing from Wester Ross, MK Thomson (24) is among 50 artists shortlisted for the 14th edition of the Signature Art Prize with her oil painting, titled ‘Aporia 1’.

Her work will be on display alongside work from other finalists for the prize at White Box Gallery in London, from June 8 to September 8 this year.

Founded in 2006, the Signature Art Prize is the only award of its kind that aims to promote the work of artists in the emerging stages of their careers.

A former pupil of Ullapool High School, MK is currently studying for her Masters degree in fine art at Dundee University.

Before MK’s work is being taken to London, her paintings can currently be seen at An Talla Solais in Ullapool at a joint exhibition with fellow figurative artist, Daniel Murray. The An Talla Solais exhibition is on display until June 22.
